Waldorf schools have the same challenges as any school when it comes to meeting a budget. Some may view our school tuition as "expensive" so it is important we let families know that our tuition covers the cost of our highly trained teachers as well as the fine, highest quality classroom materials Waldorf schools are known for providing, and for the organic foods we feel are essential for healthy development of the body. Waldorf schools are non-profit organizations.
Waldorf believes the most important thing is serving the child; meeting the child's needs. When making decisions, the question always asked, whether in a College of Teachers meeting, or a Board of Trustees meeting, is: what is best for the children? Because of our child-centered educational approach, and because Waldorf education is so unique and requires very highly trained teachers in order to be called a Waldorf school, the costs of operating such a special place for our children may seem higher. A Waldorf teacher has undergone intensive training for a number of years and has spent upwards of $30,000 on her or his training. These are highly trained teachers, devoted to the Waldorf educational curriculum to meet children's needs in the classroom. A Waldorf school necessarily needs to offer such specially trained teachers a dignified living, and also must be competitive in salary as there is a world-wide shortage of trained Waldorf teachers. Waldorf education is currently the fastest growing alternative education, and the demand for these highly trained Waldorf teachers is great.
The decision to enroll your child in an alternative school is one in which many factors need to be weighed. But one thing you can be certain of at Glacier Waldorf School: we are providing what we think is the very best in terms of Waldorf education, in terms of well-trained Waldorf teachers, daily environmental and sensory experiences in our beautiful facility and surrounding natural and organic farm setting, and in organic foods and highest quality classroom materials.
Knowing how quickly childhood passes, we think it is absolutely worth it to provide such a magical educational experience for children. We hope you do too.
